Daniel Hernández
22/Medellín, CO/ICPC South America North finalist/Educator/Ex-Mercado Libre

I'm Daniel Hernández. I'm 22 and I build software from Medellín, Colombia.

I started out competing: I made it to the ICPC South America North regional finals, where I learned that a hard problem is rarely as big as it looks. You just have to break it down calmly. That mindset took me to Mercado Libre, where I spent nearly four years building systems that couldn't afford to fail, and now to Yuno, designing the payments infrastructure that moves money across borders without anyone having to think about it.

Two things obsess me: distributed systems that hold up under real scale, and explaining hard things clearly. I've come to believe they're the same skill: bringing order to noise.

Away from work I'm still curious, just about other things. I travel to lose the map for a while and come back thinking differently. I come home to Medellín, to my family, and to the people who knew me before any of this. And yes, sometimes the best idea for an architecture problem shows up far from the screen, usually right after I stop looking for it.

Code is only half of it. The other half is these people.
